Meet the Designers

SATE is creating ongoing opportunities for artists who have previously participated in the Aphra Behn Festival. SATE is piloting a mentorship component with this year’s directors and designers, and looks to continue growing the program.

Bess Moynihan (Scenic Designer, Winnie & Alfred, Festival Design Mentor) has been a Resident Artist with SATE for the past 5 years. She has designed scenery and lighting, appeared on stage in Run-on Sentence, and directed their production of No Exit. Currently, Bess is an instructor of Technical Theatre and Communications at East Central College. She has been nominated three times for a St. Louis Theatre Circle Award for Lighting Design. Special thanks to her creative and hard-working student collaborators, this incredible ensemble and, as always, love to Rachel and Ellie for the playground.

Sebastian Montowine (Scenic Designer, Two of Every Animal) is currently enrolled at East Central College and hopes to become a theatre educator. This is Sebastian’s first time designing a show and hopes to do many more in the future. Sebastian is super excited to be working at SATE for his first zoom production!

Shania Wilson (Scenic Designer, Tonya and the Totes in Subterrastrata) is currently in her second year of attending East Central College to pursue technical theater. Shania is so glad to be able to work with so many friendly faces to help create a memorable experience for both the cast and the audience and to expand her technical knowledge! She is very excited to work on her first zoom production by designing the set of Tonya and the Totes in Subterrastrata!

Liz Henning (Festival Costume Designer) has been a Resident Artist with SATE since 2014, and is excited to continue working with the SATE team!

Spencer Lawton (Festival Stage Manager) is looking forward to collaborating with the team on this production.

Plans are also in place to help create ongoing opportunities for artists who have previously participated in the Aphra Behn Festival. We look forward to continuing to pilot the mentorship component with this year’s directors, and we look forward to welcoming playwright mentors next year!
